...

A proper Venom vinyl release has been put out by the folks who brought you the Porno Cassettes e.p. - Radio Raheem Records (brooklyn NYC). Now I'm just waiting for the Indecent Exposure reissues and some inspiration to keep digging up the most elusive of old oi band recordings...

reissues

So it seems like there's more and more reissues coming out recently, which is fine with me, keep the shit coming. Still waiting on the Skin Graft demo 7" and some Abnormal demo...
Lately i have seen/heard of the Skins n Punks comps, the Guttersnipes, Renegade, the Crack, Section 5, Crux, the Glory, Criminal Class (& some i've forgotten i'm sure) plus a ton of 80's uk punk bands and soon... these guys:

canadian show: the Strike w/ the Oppressed

as much as i hate the Oppressed turning cover songs (and their own songs) into bastardized anti-this&that versions of overdone shit, i love that band and i don't think i can miss what's probably my only chance to see the Strike. the Prowlers, who're playing too, cover Gassenhauer & the Discords - i am an asshole who likes 70's & 80's covers more than actual bands a lot of the time.

in other "news" apprently some Setion 5, the Glory and the Crack stuff is gettign the reisue treatment, as are a lot of classic & cult bands -punk and oi - like this punk singalong by the Sex Aids:

80's Reissues + updates (Crown Court & Last Crusade) + bring the hate

A few good reissues and collections out lately, keep your eyes peeled for the Crux / Crash split 12" (same label that put out the Violators & the Expelled collections), the Guttersnipes "the poor dress up" reissue & one outta nowhere: Renegade "stay in your homes"(!), I believe it's their demo and some extras. I will know once the package hits my doorstep. I'm pretty sure they're all from different labels in spain/catelonia for whatever reason - looks like spain's got it goin on? Either way, that means if you live in the u.s. like me then shit ain't gonna be cheap with the cost of spain's shipping. There are plenty of other more mainstream oi reissues but these are the ones that deserve some attention.

no major news here, just that i have unfucked the Last Crusade / Crown Court page(s). And i recommend that since they're hot shit, when these bands release new material buy it right away, or it'll get gobbled up by collectors and vinyl vultures who will flip it and you'll end up paying bullshit marked up prices for a brand new record.

i have also been curious as to how the british feel about some american who was born in the 80's (who doesn't know grammar worth a fuck either) & has never set foot on their island acting like a know it all about their music and culture - i wanna hear it. and the best part is... i'm a punk!
also, why the fuck hasn't anyone done this already somewhere on the internet?! i didn't want to, but it had to be done - some of the best(and worst) music ever!

B Squadron

holy shit, a new band (besides Steel Comb) that sounds like authentic 80s british fucking oi oi music. And although not 100% throwback raw oi like this, check out contemporaries Last Crusade & Crown Court (it's almost about time i give those bands their own pages).

Skingraft demo

as i was driving to chicago today and listening to Oi! Oi! Music by Skin Graft on a cd i made, i thought (again) "is anyone ever gonna find this fuckin demo? this shits great- raw as fuck, primal, simple and melodic but aggressive, like it should be" - i also thought, could i pull this off as a cover in my band that doesn't exist but that's some other bullshit altogether - who could be in a band with a purist asshole like me anyways haha. Well, anyways, today i saw online that their demo is fucking finally going to see the light of day on a 7"!!! more info as it gets closer to release....

more to come... not too much more tho

it ain't over yet... a small handful more of 80's bands coming when i get around to it.

while i have your attention - 2 american bands that have the right idea as far as U.S. oi goes. (since i hate most modern bands and styles)

Victory - my midwest neighbors and fat friends who have been around as a band for a few years now.

Their singer Dan's voice is going from being on tour and playing a show the same day before filming this, but this is best place to get a well rounded idea of most of their songs in one place.

i also got this demo cd in the mail from the female-fronted Class System (after bugging them first...), outta somewhere in California.

New Breed

various oi-related & skinhead documentaries

i will add to this over time.

the band it all began with - Sham 69 - "Tell Us The Truth" doc. 1979.
Includes a drama feat. Grant Flemming from the Kidz Next Door (who featured Sham singer Jimmy Pursey's little brother, Robbie Pursey), who was also half of the Terrible Twins; with my favorite song from Oi! the Album - "Generation of Scars".

4-Skins on BBC 1981

"Skinheads" feat. Combat 84 & the Elite 1982

"UK/DK A Film About Punks & Skinheads" feat. the Business, Angelic Upstarts & many others 1983

VA - Oi! The Album

maybe not quite where it all began, but this compilation put oi music, as we know it, on the map.

"new" band - Skunx

even though they've broken up and can't be boxed into one style, check out my friends band from Toronto -  Skunx. They had a variety of influences from 80's british oi to uk82 style punk, with weird postpunk melodies and 1980's french, south american and italian oi + more. They ranged from fast punk songs to midtempo oi stompers with their own unique sound. Here's a few of the more oi type songs:

i will fill this in later, for now hear more Skunx and check out UK'82 punk bands here: http://UK82punk.blogspot.com

updates

besides obviously adding a few bands i updated Porno Cassettes and added the other demo to Conditional Discharge. Threw up another Society's Rejects song too. A few bands coming too, some oi and some that push it...

Toy Dolls

A unique, goofy punk band who are really in a category all of their own, the band being basically the child of high pitched frontman/only consistent member, soap opera addict and guitar virtuoso, "Olga" aka Micheal Algar. The Toy Dolls got loosely associated with oi music from their contributions the 1981 "Strength Thru Oi!" compilation, and really made their mark on the public with their following 1982 single, "Nellie The Elephant". They have released a slew of singles, eps and albums over the years, and are a good band to play if you want to infuriate your coworkers and have other men accuse you of being "gay" and/or "fucking retarded". Here's a few of their songs from some of their 80's releases.

the Accused

amped up punk played by skins

Distorted Truth

another stretch - just a punk band really, but the song "Party Political Bullshit" gets thrown onto oi comps.

updates/news

I filled in most of the Cockney Rejects and the Blaggers and added a couple of bands. I'm gonna fuck with the "fake / comp bands" post or whatever the hell i called it and give some of those bands their own pages in hopes that i can dig up more demos, and keep that post just for the millions of stupid fake and stupid bands from the oi comps. I feel guilty leaving bands like TDA, Hostile Youth and the Accused laying around next to that dumb shit. I will be updating some other old ones that need filling in and adding a few bands yet. I am always on the lookout for demos and the like so feel free to send shit my way.

the Last Resort

Last Resort info from Backstreet Battalion skinzine

If you say you like oi music, and you don't like this band then you might as well go jump off of a fucking cliff. Soon - a bio and any missing songs filled in.

Britanarchists

I don't really know who the fuck Nick Toczek is other than he basically annoys me with his singing and i think i read once that he's some left wing socialist type. This isn't isn't really oi, but fits in with a lot of the looser, less boxed-in sounds from early oi comps. The first incarnation of Britanarchists is Nick with The Burial and some other group, then other artists later and some solo shit or something... really, i don't give a fuck about this but that "stiff with a quiff" song ain't half bad - and i am also including a later song i stumbled upon because it's not as terrible as the early material.

Frankie & the Flames / Franky "Boy" Flame

Franky Flame is a London pianist and singer/songwriter. His impact on oi music started with his pub rock band "Frankie and the Flames" (featured on the "Oi! Oi! That's Yer Lot!" comp.) and his many cameos on the keys with London groups such as the Blood, the Gonads & the Business. He continues to play to this day, in various bands and international collaborations, as well as solo - being the center of many a drunken singalong. Here are some of the Flames' more oi-leaning/drunk friendly songs. I will add some of his other contributions to 80's oi music later.

\

...then there's always Oi! the Robot's contribution on the Son Of Oi! comp. wtf...

the Last Resort - late 70/early 80's skinhead shop

There's plenty of images on band t-shirt and albums that were stolen from the Last Resort shop's catalog pages. Check out this link to my friends dead old blog In For The 80's to look at pictures of skins, the shop, the catalog etc.

Van Del & the Hooligans

Coming off a pretty solid oi comp. (Link Records' "...the Sound of Oi!"), this band was pre-Guitar Gangsters and played more of a 77 punk style. They were actually a punk band called Embryo and just used a fake name for the comp. They later changed their name to Jump Squad and other various names until disbanding/morphing into the Guitar Gangsters. They got on the comp. i assume because of their friendship with the guys from Link Records/the Business.

the Resort

the Resort aka the Last Resort reformed... the bastardized hard rock versions you'd hear at the end of your Last Resort cd collection. A Last Resort page and Resort/Warriors confusing name-claiming, singer-swapping family tree soon...

a few songs missing but who gives a shit, i should delete this!
